For what it's worth, I think you are very smart to dispose of your old WT literature on eBay or the like. There are folks who will pay big bucks for certain rare publications. Good for you!

An identical book, maybe this very one, was sold on eBay last week for almost $200. If I had to guess, I'd say it's likely that whoever bought it is probably the one who sent it to Atlantis, knowing that was the best possible use for it. By making it available here, you and Atlantis have done all us a great service. Thanks again!

I don't know for sure who sent it to you, but please let them know that their unselfish gift may accomplish much good and is appreciated by many.

Yet another fine illustration that life turns on a dime. Even seemingly trivial events can ripple outward to dramatically affect the distant future. For example, what would our country look like now if that British sniper had shot George Washington in the back after all?

On a personal note, my dad was a GI on Okinawa in the summer of 1945 (before the atomic bombs were dropped) and later was in one of the first units to enter Japan to begin the Occupation. I wasn't born until several years later. Things could easily have gone quite differently for me. Not that history would notice one way or the other, but still...

Anyway, thanks for this thought provoking post. A delight to read, as usual.

You can bet there is some legal reason for this change. Probably has to do with lawsuits over liability or some such. It all boils down to protecting their financial assets.

The way I see it, it's fine for the Borg to receive and distribute these boxes, provided (1) they give them out on the basis of need, not religious affiliation, (2) they are not paid as an organization to do so and then expect the "brothers" to do the actual work at their own expense, and (3) they do not even HINT that the recipient should donate to the Borg because of this "gift."

I would bet dollars to donuts that none of the above three conditions are true of the JW distribution system. In my experience, they don't do anything without a financial angle of some kind.

the best part, they want donations of $75 for it!

so they don't provide any physical food to people in africa but they can send them "spiritual food" for $75.
